Ceiling Fan Installation in El Paso, TX

In a city where summer afternoons regularly top 100 degrees, ceiling fans do a lot of work. They help refrigerated air feel cooler so you can set the thermostat higher, they move air in homes that rely on evaporative coolers, and they keep bedrooms comfortable on warm nights. Many El Paso homes were built with only a light fixture in bedrooms and living rooms, or with an older fan that wobbles, clicks or barely moves air. Vaulted ceilings in newer homes and tall ceilings in older ones add another challenge, and plenty of ceiling boxes were never rated to hold the weight and movement of a fan.

We start by checking the ceiling box and the framing above it. If the box isn't fan-rated, we install a proper brace before anything goes up, then assemble the fan, set the downrod for the ceiling height, hang it level, and balance the blades so it runs quietly at every speed. Our licensed electricians connect the fan and its light kit, add a wall control or separate switches for the fan and the light when you want them, and run a new switched feed where a room has never had a ceiling box. Then we clean up, patch any ceiling marks and show you how to switch the direction for summer and winter.

What this covers

  • Fan-rated box and brace installation
  • Fan assembly and mounting
  • Downrods for vaulted and tall ceilings
  • Blade balancing and wobble repair
  • Fan replacement and old fan removal
  • Patio and outdoor-rated fan mounting
  • Wiring, wall controls and remotes
  • Ceiling patch and paint touch-up
A note from around here: Bedrooms in the Northeast and Central ranches often have a light but no fan, and newer two-story homes on the Westside and far East have vaulted living rooms that need longer downrods and secure bracing.

How a ceiling fan installation visit usually goes

Check the Box and Ceiling

We look at the existing box, the framing above and the ceiling height, and confirm the fan you've chosen fits the room and the mounting location.

Brace and Wire

We install a fan-rated box or brace if needed, and our licensed electricians make the wiring connection and add any new switch or wall control.

Assemble and Hang

We assemble the motor, blades and light kit, set the correct downrod length, and hang the fan level and secure.

Balance and Finish

We balance the blades, test every speed and light setting, patch any marks on the ceiling, and clean up.

Homes that use evaporative coolers benefit a lot from good ceiling fans. A swamp cooler pushes humidified air through the house, and fans help move it into bedrooms and corners where it would otherwise stall, which keeps a home comfortable on hot, dry June afternoons before the monsoon arrives. Once the humidity rises in July and August and coolers become less effective, fans keep the air moving. On covered patios, outdoor-rated fans make evenings more pleasant, but they must be rated for damp locations and installed with corrosion-resistant hardware, because blowing dust and monsoon rain can ruin an indoor fan quickly.

What shapes the price in El Paso

The price of ceiling fan work depends on what's above the ceiling and how high it is. Replacing an existing fan on a fan-rated box is the simplest job. Adding a brace where only a light box existed takes more time, and vaulted or two-story ceilings need taller ladders, longer downrods and sometimes a second person. Fans with complicated light kits or remote modules take longer to assemble. Adding a new switch, a separate fan control or a fresh feed to a room that never had a ceiling box takes more wiring time, and we include it in one quote. Installing several fans in one visit spreads setup time and is the most economical route.

Neighbors often ask

Can a ceiling fan go where I now have a light fixture?

Usually, yes. A light box isn't built to carry a spinning fan, so we check the box and framing, install a fan-rated brace where needed, and then assemble and hang the fan. Our licensed electricians connect it to the existing switched circuit, and if you'd like the fan and light on separate switches or a remote, we set that up in the same visit. Most bedroom swaps take a couple of hours from start to cleanup.

Why does my fan wobble?

Most wobbles come from unbalanced blades, loose blade screws, a bent blade holder, or a fan that isn't hanging straight because the mounting bracket or box is loose. We tighten everything, check the bracket and box, measure blade alignment, and balance the fan with a kit. If the box isn't fan-rated, we'll recommend installing a proper brace, because that's a safety issue, not just an annoyance.

What size fan should I get?

Fan size depends on the room size and ceiling height. Small bedrooms do well with fans around 42 to 48 inches, larger living rooms with 52 inches or more, and big open spaces may benefit from two fans. On vaulted ceilings a longer downrod keeps the blades at an effective height. We're happy to give advice before you buy.

Which way should my fan spin in summer and winter?

In summer, the blades should push air down, which on most fans means counterclockwise when viewed from below. In winter, set it to run slowly clockwise to pull air up and push the warm air near the ceiling back down along the walls. We'll show you the switch or remote setting when we finish.

Can you install a fan on a covered patio?

Yes, as long as the fan is rated for damp or wet locations and there's a solid mounting point. We use outdoor-rated hardware, mount it securely to the patio framing or a rated box, and balance it so it handles the breeze. If the patio has no fixture box yet, our licensed electricians can run a new feed and switch so the fan goes exactly where you want it.
