The Story Behind El Paso Handyman Pros

El Paso is a big desert city wrapped around the southern tip of the Franklin Mountains, with the Rio Grande and Ciudad Juárez on one side and Fort Bliss and the open mesa on the other. The climate shapes every house here: well under ten inches of rain in a typical year, intense sun at high elevation, summer heat that pushes past 100 degrees, a spring wind season that drives dust and tumbleweeds across town, and a July-to-September monsoon that can drop a month of rain in an afternoon. Every so often a hard arctic freeze settles in, as it did in February 2011, when the city went through days below freezing and pipes split all over town. The housing covers more than a century — brick Victorians in Sunset Heights, 1910s and 1920s bungalows in Kern Place and Manhattan Heights, block-and-brick ranches across the Northeast and Central, and miles of newer stucco subdivisions on the far East and Westside.

We started this outfit to handle the work that tends to fall through the cracks — the jobs too small for a general contractor and too fiddly for a weekend. A gate that sags after the spring winds, a ceiling stain from a clogged roof scupper, a door that sticks after the stucco settles, a light fixture that needs swapping, a TV that has to go up on a block wall. We quote clearly, show up when we say we will, and clean up before we leave. Electrical and plumbing connections are handled by our licensed electricians and plumbers, so the new ceiling fan, the dripping faucet and the running toilet go on the same list as everything else.

We use materials that make sense for this climate: UV-stable caulks and paints, stainless and coated exterior hardware, anchors rated for concrete block and brick, and finishes that tolerate dry air and big day-to-night temperature swings. We know the difference between patching hard-coat stucco and synthetic finishes, between a canale and a downspout, and between a crack that is just dry-climate shrinkage and one that hints at something bigger. Our goal is simple: be the handyman El Paso neighbors trust and recommend, one honest job at a time.
